Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
CheckMate Budget is a free personal finance app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what we do not do with it. We built this app for people who are trying to get their finances under control — not to profit from their data.
What we collect
CheckMate Budget collects only what is necessary to operate the app:
- Account information — when you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique user identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name and email address. We use this only to identify your account.
- Financial data you enter — expenses, paychecks, bills, savings goals, and contributions that you manually log in the app. This data is stored securely in our AWS backend and is used only to power your personal dashboard.
- Bank account data — if you choose to connect a bank account via Stripe Financial Connections, we access read-only balance and transaction information on your behalf. We do not store raw transaction data beyond what is needed to display it in the app. We do not sell or share this data.
- Receipt images — photos you attach to expenses are stored only on your device. We do not upload or store receipt images on our servers.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect advertising identifiers.
- We do not track your behavior across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell your data to third parties.
- We do not use your financial data to train machine learning models.
How we use your data
Your data is used exclusively to operate CheckMate Budget — to calculate your safe-to-spend balance, track your bills and savings goals, and enable accountability partner features you opt into. We do not use your financial data for advertising or profiling.
Accountability partners
If you choose to add an accountability partner, that person may receive notifications about your savings goals and financial activity — but only the information you have configured the app to share. Your partner does not have access to your full financial data.
Third-party services
- Apple Sign In — used for authentication. Governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Stripe Financial Connections — used for optional read-only bank connectivity. Governed by Stripe's privacy policy. We request only balance and transaction data and do not initiate payments.
- AWS — our backend infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Data retention
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below. We will delete your data within 30 days of a verified request.
Children
CheckMate Budget is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
